There are many opportunities for pupils to get involved in fantastic theatre productions, musicals, festivals, weekly drama clubs and theatre visits. There are also many opportunities to help back stage and take part in production and technical aspects of theatre work as well as taking acting roles.
At King’s we aim to create a lively interest in Drama, delivering a programme that is both challenging and enriching. This enables our students to use their creative, empathetic and communicative skills in a safe and nurturing environment, often achieving more than they ever thought possible.
Clare Howdon, Director of Drama
The Vanbrugh Theatre is a wonderful asset for King’s. There are many productions and shows throughout the year, with pupils having the opportunity to get involved across all age groups. Opened by former pupil and screen and stage actor, Ronald Pickup, it is home to most of King’s drama productions. All our productions are renowned for their polish and professionalism. Concerts, theatrical productions, daily assemblies and end-of-term Cathedral services are all opportunities for children to perform and shine.
Pupils have the opportunity to partake in LAMDA examinations, and our young thespians compete in Chester’s Festival of Speech and Drama, hosted by King’s, regularly winning top accolades. We regularly take a student-directed production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which is a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
