Harry goes for gold in Paris

We are thrilled to announce that Harry Brightmore (OKS 2012) has been officially chosen to represent @teamgb in the men’s VIII at the Paris Olympics this summer.

We couldn’t wait to congratulate Harry and when we spoke to him, he expressed his excitement at receiving the news of his selection.

He said: “It’s an incredible feeling! To have reached this point means everything to me, but I still feel the pull of the epic challenge ahead, and as a team we cannot settle.

“We face the toughest block of training yet over the next month so we can sit on the start line in Paris knowing we are about to put out the performance of a lifetime.

We were also honoured to hear that Harry credits the valuable lessons he learned at school for his success, saying: “It’s a childhood dream to be selected for the Olympics and that dream started 16 years ago at King’s. There are lessons I learned there that will be with me all the way.”

His accomplishments include being a two-time European and World Champion in the men’s VIII, winning six Henley Regatta titles, including the Grand Challenge Cup in 2023 with Great Britain, and securing gold medals in all events in 2024.

Director of Rowing, David Blackham, commended Harry’s ongoing success since leaving King’s, inspiring current rowers by showcasing what is achievable.

David said: “As Harry embarks on this exciting journey, his story serves as a testament to the dedication, hard work, and passion that drive athletes to excel.

“His journey from The King’s Boat House to the world stage is not just a personal triumph but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring rowers and young athletes everywhere.’’

As the countdown to the Paris Olympics continues, the excitement and anticipation build.

Harry Brightmore’s Olympic journey has just begun and he and his team can be certain that everyone in the King’s community will be cheering him on and wishing him all the best for the ultimate reward of sporting success, a gold medal for GB.
