Bonnie & Clyde: Meet the leads

With less than three weeks to go until the curtain goes up, rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s sensational Senior School musical, Bonnie & Clyde.

Director of Drama, Clare Howdon, is excited for opening night: “Such is the talent in the older years that we have had to double cast many of the roles, including those of Bonnie and Clyde.

“Everyone is doing such an incredible job and I cannot wait to share the show with audiences at the end of the month.

“The show is probably not as well known as some of our recent productions but I guarantee that the audience is in for a real treat; it is full of catchy songs and, as well as the passion, danger and excitement you would expect from this infamous story of crime and consequence, there are a surprising number of laughs.”

Upper Sixth pupils Grace, Imogen, Lukas and Matthew will portray the notorious couple on stage. We caught up with them mid-rehearsal and posed a few quick-fire questions to find out more about the show.

Describe Bonnie & Clyde in three words.

Lukas: Fun. Exciting. BAM!

Imogen: Funny. Passionate. Tragic.

Grace: Humorous. Dark. Upbeat.

Matthew: Romance. Violence. Texas.

What’s the one thing that the audience needs to know before they come to see Bonnie & Clyde?

Grace: I think it’s useful for people to know a little bit about the story of Bonnie and Clyde so would advise everyone to have a quick google before they come.

Imogen: I would warn everyone that it doesn’t have a happy ending.

Lukas: I’d tell them to bring a seatbelt as it’s a wild ride!

Which of your co-stars is most like their character and why?

Grace: Hector as Buck as they have the same humour.

Lukas: Caragh as Blanche.

Imogen: Lily as Trish as they have the same sense of humour.

Matthew: Wayne as the Preacher as they both have aura.

Is there anything that will surprise the audience about the show?

Grace: How funny it is considering it’s quite a dark theme.

Lukas: Maybe, I don’t want to ruin the surprise!

Matthew: Probably all the romance stuff.

Why should people come and see the show?

Imogen: It is captivating from start to finish and will have you laughing and crying at the same time.

Lukas: Because it’s going to be brilliant!

What will the audience be thinking about as they drive home after seeing Bonnie & Clyde?

Grace: “I need to see that again!”

Lukas: They’ll have the song, When I Drive, in their heads for a long time after they see the show.

Imogen: Just that they need come again as it’s so good!

Matthew: “That Matt Burman guy is good isn’t he?”
