On 17 October, we were delighted to host one of the Royal College of Pathologists most popular public engagement events, the Living Autopsy.
Students from King’s and other local schools filled the Vanbrugh Theatre to experience the live audience-based event with Dr Meara, Consultant Histopathologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Using King’s Sixth Former Mahir as her model, Dr. Meara used real instruments, as well as video and images to take the audience through the process of a post-mortem examination.
During the evening, students also learned about the role of pathologists in hospitals, including their role in diagnosing disease and the circumstances under which a post-mortem would be required.
Before and after the live event, students were able to talk to current NHS staff about careers in Pathology.
