Budding authors excited to see their poems in print

Children in Willow Lodge have been celebrating this week as several budding authors were selected to have their work published in a poetry anthology.

The children were tasked with creating a monster character before composing a Monster Acrostic based on the names of their characters.

The entries were sent off to the Young Writers competition and after a few weeks of eagerly awaiting news, we were thrilled to hear that 29 children were chosen to be included in the publication.

The children’s poems included such creative characters as Monster Martin, Fireball, Lavaman, and Crafty the Creative Monster.

Deputy Head of Willow Lodge, Hannah Gardiner, handed out the certificates during a special assembly and praised the children for their impressive poems.

She said: “It’s great to see the children using their fantastic imaginations and creative writing skills in a real life situation, and they are very excited to see their poems in print.

“I am also looking forward to reading the poems in the finished book and will very proudly place a copy in our school library.”
