Careers Breakfast: Nuclear Engineering

Many thanks to Jay Haddley for a fascinating Careers Breakfast about his career in nuclear engineering, which was enjoyed by pupils from all year groups.

Mr Haddley gave an overview of nuclear engineering, explaining how we get electricity from nuclear energy and the advantages and disadvantages of the process. The A level Chemists in attendance were particularly interested in hearing about the future challenges for nuclear engineering.

Going on to talk about the engineering challenges he has faced in his career to date, as well as general engineering challenges in the future, Mr Haddley’s talk left pupils with lots to think about.

Head of Careers, Dr Hensman, thanked Mr Haddley for a very valuable session.

He said: “Pupils gained an excellent insight into nuclear engineering this morning and I am very grateful to Mr Haddley for an interesting and engaging talk.

“I was particularly pleased that some of our Sixth Formers took the opportunity to speak to Mr Haddley in more detail about engineering careers after his presentation.”
