On Thursday, 6 July, seven Senior School students joined 11 other local schools at Chester Zoo’s School Takeover Day.
Giving schools the opportunity to highlight the great work they are doing to prevent extinction and encourage everyone to live more sustainably, the event was organised by the Chester Zoo learning team.
Each school had their own strategically positioned stand at a popular location around the zoo, where they were able to interact with as many visitors as possible.
King’s students set up their eco table next to the mush-loved penguins. With their recycling challenge, they engaged visitors and tested their knowledge of materials that can and cannot be recycled.
Sustainability prefects Adam John (L6GLA) and Jorja Hill (L6BRD) also represented the Chester Schools Sustainability Network who were located next to the sun bears. With a photo memory game, visitors were given an insight into everything we do for sustainability at King’s.
Mrs Aldridge, who leads on sustainability at King’s and accompanied the students to the zoo, thanked them for their enthusiasm and commitment, especially as the event took place on the first day of summer holiday.
The event was hailed a success by the Chester Zoo learning team: “It has been a truly inspiring day hearing the voices of young people talk about conservation, sustainability and climate issues so passionately to our visitors.”
