Rehearsals for our 2025 production are well underway and we are excited to announce that the next King’s production on the Vanbrugh Theatre stage will be Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical.
Director of Drama, Clare Howdon is directing the show and she explained why she was drawn to the story of America’s most infamous couple: “I saw a production of Bonnie & Clyde at the Knutsford Little Theatre a while ago and absolutely loved it.
“It has a bit of everything; there’s passion, danger, excitement, some unforgettable characters and, perhaps surprisingly, quite a lot of laughs! It also has some very catchy songs that stay in your head long after you leave the theatre.
“I knew that our talented pupils would be able to do the show justice and that audiences would really enjoy it.”
Set during the Great Depression, the musical follows the notorious couple as they chase their dreams of fame and fortune, only to be caught in a whirlwind of crime and consequence, and a cast of pupils from Thirds to Upper Sixth are working hard to bring the musical re-telling of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow’s ill-fated love story to life.
One of the things that attracted Mrs Howdon to Bonnie & Clyde was the music: “The music is quite different to any other musical we have staged at King’s as it blends blues, gospel, and rockabilly.
“In fact, I would go as far as describing Bonnie & Clyde as the perfect musical for people who think that they don’t like musicals!”
Bonnie and Clyde will run for four nights in the Vanbrugh Theatre from Tuesday, 28 – Friday, 31 January 2025. Tickets are available online now – What’s On – The King’s School Chester
