Cricket: Romano makes Wales debut

We are very proud of Sixth Former Romano Franco (L6WER) who made his debut for Wales this weekend. 

Romano, who captains the 1st XI at King’s, became the second youngest North Wales player to represent the full Wales men’s team when he played against Hertfordshire in the side’s 50 over trophy campaign on Sunday, 23 June. 

The Northop CC player took two wickets in the game, helping his side to a convincing victory as they triumphed by 76 runs against the home team. 

His impressive National Counties debut for Wales comes after a whirlwind few months for the talented spin bowler.

In October, Romano won the Sir Jack Hobbs Silver Jubilee Memorial Prize for the most outstanding U16 schoolboy cricketer, an award that came shortly before he secured a place on the Glamorgan Academy. Just six months later, on 29 April, Romano made his 2nd XI debut for Glamorgan, taking two wickets off ten balls and conceding only one run. 

Director of Sport, Richard Lunn, congratulated Romano on his debut.

He said: “We are all very proud of Romano. He is an incredibly talented cricketer who works hard at his sport and deserves all that he achieves. 

“He is a fantastic captain for our first XI and I know that he has a very bright future ahead of him.”
