On Saturday, 29 April, the U12 girls cricket team travelled to Merchant Taylors’ School to play their first competitive match and represent King’s for the first time on the cricket field.

The momentous match marked the beginning of an exciting season, as this is the first year in which girls are playing cricket as their primary sport in the summer term.

Director of Cricket, Mark Baker, accompanied the girls to Merchant Taylors’ School and is excited for the future of girls cricket at King’s.

He said: “I was very impressed with the girls on Saturday. They approached the match in a positive way, put into practise what they have been learning and, importantly, really enjoyed themselves!

“The girls in this year’s Removes are the first year group to play cricket competitively as the school’s main summer sport and I am delighted that we have had such a positive response to the launch of girls cricket in school.

“The women’s game is incredibly popular in the UK and it is great news for King’s that, with teams in multiple age groups, as well as in Junior School, we are leading the way in ensuring that it continues to grow.”
