Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme: Students rise to the challenge

2023 has been another hugely successful year for Duke of Edinburgh participants at The King’s School.

At recent celebration assemblies, a total of 174 certificates were awarded to pupils who have worked hard in each of the sections required to complete the bronze, silver and gold awards.

Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, Tony Brown, is very proud of all of the pupils and was pleased to see them recognised for their hard work and commitment.

He said: “The pupils work hard for their awards and there is always a sense of great satisfaction when they receive their badge and certificate.

“Pupils showed incredible resilience during this year’s expeditions, many of which took place on demanding terrain during particularly hot weather.

“Special mention has to go to our gold participants; the walkers covered an impressive distance between Trefrew and Llanberis, and the canoers started on the Llangollen canal and travelled  through Shropshire and Cheshire, camping along the way, to finish in Waverton.”

In this season, a total of 156 pupils are registered, including 26 gold participants, and we look forward to presenting them with their awards next year.
