Finn sets goal scoring record in first season

In his first season with King’s, Finn Leonard (L6WAL) has made a big impression, playing a key role in the first XI’s recent triumphs, including winning the Independent Schools National Plate competition.

Team coach, Dr Chris Ashcroft, reflected on Finn’s season with the team.

He said: “When Finn joined King’s in the Lower Sixth this September, he slotted into an already successful first team squad and quickly proved to be a pivotal figure at the front of the attack, sometimes as a lone forward.

“With an incredible 64 goals to his name, his goal-scoring ability from open play and set pieces has set new records.”

Finn has scored in every one of his 21 matches, averaging more than three goals per match.

Dr Ashcroft continued: “Finn’s goal total smashes the previous best of 54 goals set by current Third Year pupil, Harry Grattan.

“On five occasions, he has netted no fewer than four goals in a match. Indeed, he proved to be a thorn in the side of Bromsgrove School when he netted all four goals against them in two high-stakes encounters, including in the IHSC National Final.”

Finn also plays for Deeside Ramblers and was selected for the England U18 squad earlier this season. We look forward to seeing more from him in a King’s jersey next year.
