Football: King’s boys take to the pitch as Manchester United’s defensive duo

It isn’t every day that King’s can boast the centre-back pairing for Manchester United!

Joe Williams (SHDUT) and Jacob Watson (3WAL) both play for the Manchester United Academy and were paired together at a recent international tournament.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, both boys travelled to the Netherlands with the Manchester United U14 Academy team where they took on teams from Israel, Holland, Belgium and Norway at the Den Bosch International Tournament.

The invitational multi-sports tournament counts former Manchester United and FC Den Bosch player Ruud van Nistelrooij amongst its ambassadors and has its focus firmly on elite sports and youth development.

Jacob took on the role of joint captain for Manchester United at the tournament and led the team to victory in the initial stages as they topped their group before going on to finish in third place overall.

Director of Sport, Mr Lunn, is very proud of both boys.

He said: “What an honour for the school to have the centre-back pairing for Man United in an international event!

“Congratulations to both boys on a great performance. They fully deserve every success and we are incredibly proud of them.”
