J4 students recently enjoyed an assembly with a difference when they welcomed professional storyteller and French Horn player, Jacqui Blore.
Jacqui gave pupils an overview of the history of the unusually-shaped instrument before demonstrating a number of different horns, including a Ram’s Head Horn.
Pupils were also give the opportunity to have a go at playing the French Horn, and enjoyed making its distinctive sound that sets it apart from other brass instruments.
Director of Music, Debbie Whitfield, thanked Jacqui for an entertaining and informative session.
She said: “The French Horn is what we refer to as an endangered instrument as so few children are choosing to take it up. If this doesn’t change, it will impact on orchestras in schools and beyond as there will be a real lack of players.
“One of the aims of today’s session was to introduce pupils to the French Horn and, hopefully, to encourage them to take it up and join an orchestra!”
