GALLERY: Blooming great art

J4 pupils had a blooming good time with visiting artist Ling Warlow recently as they learned to craft their own beautiful paper flower.

Ling is an artist and Paper Botanist who captures the beauty of nature by handcrafting paper wildflowers, even creating whole bouquets.

The J4 pupils were tasked with creating one single flower – a poppy, a buttercup or a red campion – and the results were incredible.

Junior School art teacher, Miss Savage, was very impressed with the pupils’ flowers.

She said: “Creating the paper flowers requires a great deal of concentration and attention to detail and I was really pleased with how all of the pupils responded to the challenge.

“You could hear a pin drop during the session as they all worked so hard on making each element.”

In order to create a realistic-looking flower, the pupils had to study the real flower before making the stamen, leaves, seed pods and petals themselves and, just as in nature, each flower was a unique creation, reflecting the individual creativity of each pupil.

Miss Savage again: “It has been a real pleasure having Ling in our J4 art classes this week.

“The pupils have learned new skills and they have enjoyed creating something beautiful and unique whilst being encouraged to look at the natural world in a new way.”
