The cast, crew and musicians of Bonnie and Clyde: The Musical are celebrating the end of a phenomenally successful four-night run in the Vanbrugh Theatre, which saw them play to full houses and standing ovations every evening.
Telling the story of the infamous couple, Bonnie and Clyde is a powerful, emotionally charged musical, weaving together powerful ballads, haunting melodies and high-energy numbers that bring the characters’ emotions to life. Director, Clare Howdon, praised the cast for their depictions of the complex characters.
She said: “The characters of Bonnie and Clyde are among the most complex in musical theatre and the challenge for Lukas, Imogen, Matt and Grace was not only to depict their criminality but also the humanity that underpins their actions.
“They rose to this challenge admirably, and their commitment to understanding their characters’ passion, flaws and desires was replicated across the whole company.
“Each and every member of the cast approached their role with remarkable sensitivity, exploring the depth of each character, and finding the heart of the story beneath the violence and chaos.”
Many of the lead roles in the production were double-cast, a decision made in response to the exceptional talent in the Senior School, and one that Headmaster George Hartley wholeheartedly supported.
He said: “The fact that we were able to have two casts is testament to the popularity of Drama at King’s, as well as a tribute to the talent, confidence and commitment of our students, and their willingness to step out of their comfort zone and give their all.”
Mr Hartley went on to commend the live band, as well as the technical and backstage crew, highlighting the incredible effort and teamwork that goes into a production at this level: “Major school productions like this are fantastic examples of what can be achieved when departments and individuals pool their skills and work together.
“Through hard work and collaboration, Bonnie and Clyde has created incredible opportunities for students to show off their talents, play to their strengths and make the absolute most of themselves, all whilst having huge amounts of fun and providing great pleasure and entertainment to the packed audiences.”
The final word on the 2025 Senior School production must, as always, go to the audience, who took to email and social media to congratulate cast and crew on a magnificent show. Here is just a sample of the many positive reviews received:
