In the October half-term holiday, more than 90 sporty pupils packed their football boots and netball bibs and headed off to Málaga for a memorable week of training, matches and Spanish culture.
We asked two of our touring players to report on their experiences, which, for both girls, was their first time on an overseas school trip.
Rowan I’Anson (3BRD) travelled as a footballer and netballer and enjoyed the experience of playing in a new environment and forming closer connections with her teammates.
She said: “We did so many different things but the part I enjoyed most was playing netball and going in the pool afterwards.
“We had brilliant training from professional netball and football coaches on the trip and, because we spent lots of time with people we might not have usually spent time with, we bonded really well as a team.
“Playing in Spain was very different to playing in England because it was so much warmer and we had to have lots of breaks in the shade but I really enjoyed playing against new opposition, especially as they were a different level to us.”
Imogen Pugh also played both sports whilst on the trip and she agreed with Rowan about the different activities they enjoyed.
She said: “What I enjoyed the most was the diversity that we had; Rowan and I were able to play netball and football which was amazing, and we all really enjoyed the netball tournament that we won.
“I also really enjoyed the different excursions but my favourite thing was having free time in the evenings. Most of us chose to play volleyball which was a lot of fun and we got involved in some big, recreational matches.
“The most memorable part of the trip for me was the incredible sunset on the first night, it was a brilliant way to start the trip.
“I would totally recommend to anyone that they should go on a similar trip if they get the chance!”
