Gallery: Les Misérables raises the roof

Over a four night run in the Vanbrugh Theatre, spellbound audiences have been transported to the streets of nineteenth century Paris for this year’s magnificent production of Les Misérables.

Les Misérables has been loved by audiences around the world for decades and Director Julia Williams knew that putting on a successful production would require confidence, a strong vision and a huge amount of talent.

She said: “I always knew that this production would be a challenge but it has left me with a complete and utter sense of awe at the talent of the young people here at King’s.

“We timed the production perfectly for our older students to take on the principal roles and they have carried them with a professionalism and commitment that has astounded me.”

The show involved students from all year groups, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Mrs Williams continued: “I have loved watching the sheer joy in rehearsals as students from Removes to Upper Sixth work together so seamlessly and with so much respect for each other.”

The show opened to rave reviews and a full house on Monday, 13 February.

Headmaster George Hartley was one of those in the audience: “What a triumph! I was crying from the moment the band struck up. Bravo to all, I can’t wait for the next three nights.”

When the curtain fell for the final time on Thursday, 16 February, the tremendous cast had played to more than one thousand people, many of whom took to social media to praise the show:

“Lucky enough to watch the opening night – a huge triumph!”

“Such an amazing performance. Many congratulations to all involved.”

“So much talent on that stage – a huge well done to everyone involved. We absolutely loved it!”

“An outstanding performance. Everyone involved should be very proud.”
