Girls’ hockey: season round-up

It isn’t just the boys’ hockey teams who have been celebrating regional and national success this term; our girls have also had plenty of cause for celebration in a fantastic season that saw them pick up Chester and District wins in every age group, and reach the later stages in a number of national competitions.

Director of Hockey, Simon Egerton, summed up the girls’ season, highlighting their successes. He said: “Girls’ hockey continues to go from strength to strength at King’s and every one of our squads has enjoyed a brilliant season.

“There is a culture of strong teamwork, support, mutual respect and hard work from our youngest players right up to the first team, and this season’s success comes as a direct result of that.”

Here is a summary of each age group’s season successes:

In Removes, the U12 girls started their senior school hockey career in style, ending the season as Chester and District winners and Cheshire Champions.

The U13s won the indoor and outdoor Chester and District titles and made to the North West finals and National quarter finals, narrowly losing both on strokes.

Our U14 girls were also indoor and outdoor Chester and District winners, and runners-up in the Cheshire Cup final where they lost on strokes.

The U15s were indoor and outdoor Chester & District winners.

In addition to their indoor and outdoor Chester & District titles, the U16 girls finished seventh nationally at the indoor national finals, were crowned Cheshire Champions, and reached the quarter finals of the national Independent Schools Hockey Competition (ISHC).

The first XI were Chester & District outdoor winners and  ISHC National quarter finalists. With many of the squad members only in the Lower Sixth, we look forward to further success for the first XI next season.
