Happiness Heroes spread the message

Since September, Junior School pupils have been enjoying – and benefiting from – the My Happy Mind programme.

My Happy Mind is a science-based programme, backed by the NHS, about creating positive wellbeing. Covering five modules, the programme teaches children how their brains work and how to appreciate their own strengths, as well as focusing on building positive relationships, and developing resilience and good esteem.

The programme has proved a huge hit with Junior School children.

J1 teacher Hannah Fountain leads on the programme at King’s Juniors: “The children are loving My Happy Mind.

“Each year group has its own curriculum, which means that everything they learn is age-appropriate and relevant to them. The message from our weekly My Happy Mind assemblies is reinforced through class teaching and we also have an incredible team of Happiness Heroes who help us to spread the message.”

Happiness Heroes are a 60-strong team of children from all year groups who meet every Tuesday. Through a number of initiatives, they work in teams to reinforce the My Happy Mind teaching throughout the school in a number of different ways.

Miss Fountain again: “Some of the teams lead assemblies, others concentrate on organising playground games or supervising breaktimes.

“One group of children – our marketing team – has even produced a newsletter that summarises what we have learned so far his year, gives people a chance to test their knowledge with a brain quiz, and shares their tips for keeping healthy over the holidays.”
