Hockey: County double for U14s

It has been a busy season on the hockey pitch for our girls and boys teams with a series of regional and national successes.

In the last week of Lent term, both U14 teams added to the trophy cabinet with an impressive Cheshire double as the boys and girls were both crowned county champions.

In the space of three days, both squads assembled to play for their respective County titles.

The girls were first to play, opening with a 4-0 win over The Grange. A tight 0-0 draw with King’s Macclesfield set up a must-win decider against Queen’s. Two early goals settled the team’s nerves and the 2-0 win was enough to take the trophy home and end the competition without a single goal conceded.

The boys travelled to Altrincham to play their final and even without three of their regular players, they dominated play and took the win with a 2-0 score line.

Hockey Coach Dr Ashcroft congratulated both teams on their achievements.

He said: “It has been an astonishing year for this age group. The girls were arguably the best side at their NW Finals and were unlucky to lose out on goal difference.

“The boys have qualified for the National Finals at Olympic Park in April where they hope to go one better than last year’s National Silver Medal.”
