It is not just our Senior School hockey teams who have enjoyed huge success this season. The J4 boys recently added the U11 North West title to those held by our U12, U13 and U14 boys, making King’s North West champions in an unprecedented four separate age groups.
The boys travelled to Bolton for the NW finals, taking on Bolton School Boys’ Division, Sedbergh School and Ryleys School for the regional crown.
King’s won a tough opening match against Sedbergh 3-0, whilst their second match against an athletic Ryleys team ended with a scoreless draw.
The third match of the day was against the host school and, to take the crown, it was imperative that King’s scored more goals in that game than Ryleys scored in their final match.
The King’s boys gave their all on the pitch, leading 4-o against Bolton at half-term, and extending their lead by a further three goals after the break to win 7-0.
This decisive win secured the title for King’s and hockey coach Chris Ashcroft, who accompanied the team to Bolton, was very proud of the team’s performance.
He said: “This was a brilliant effort from the whole squad, all of whom played their part.
“They didn’t concede a single goal in the finals and they fully deserved to win this title, which they can add to the AJIS trophy they won last month.
“I am very excited to see what these boys can do when they move up to Senior School. The future of hockey at King’s is looking very rosy indeed!”
Congratulations to the U11 North West champions:
