The U13 boys hockey squad is once again heading for the National Finals after successfully defending their 2021/22 North West title.
In early March, the North West finals were held at Manchester Grammar School where the team took on Altrincham Grammar School, King’s School Macclesfield and the hosts, MGS.
The first two games ended with convincing 7-0 and 6-2 wins, after which King’s faced MGS in the final to decide who would take the North West title.
MGS took an early lead but King’s equalised just before the break with a goal from Sam Mason (SHLES) before going on to score again twice in the second half. Despite a late consolation goal from MGS, King’s took the win with a 3-2 score line.
Coach Dr Chris Ashcroft praised the team.
He said: “This was a great effort from the whole squad and the players are now looking forward to two National events in both this competition, and in the Independent Schools Plate Finals.
“The win today means that our boys hockey teams have successfully defended last season’s historic treble of North West titles at U12, U13 and U14 level.
“To achieve this two years in a row is testament to the commitment and effort of the boys at all levels. Hockey is enjoying huge success at King’s right now, and the future is also looking very bright!”
Congratulations to the team:
