At the beginning of the summer term, the U16s clinched the school’s second nationa lhockey title of the season when they beat Kent College Canterbury at Olympic Park to win the England Hockey Tier 2 Championship.
Played on a warm London day, the 4-3 scoreline reflected the end-to-end nature of the tense match. King’s led from an early goal, only to be held to a draw at half-time and falling behind early in the second half. However, a penalty shot that gave Eli Corbin (5GRO) a hattrick also put King’s back in front before Maaz Afridi (5LES) secured the victory with a fourth goal for King’s.
Team coach, Dr Chris Ashcroft, was with the team in London and was incredibly proud of their performance.
He said: “This was a well-deserved victory for the U16s who have worked hard all season and today’s national title is a great reward for a squad led by a superb captain, Ieuan Morris.”
Headmaster George Hartley also congratulated the team: “The Under 16s have worked hard and deserve to be the Tier 2 national champions.
“Hockey at King’s is in incredible shape and I can’t wait to see what next season holds for the school.”
