Congratulations to our U16 boys and U18 girls Indoor Hockey squads who both reached their respective National Finals this month, the first time this has been achieved since 2017.
Indoor Hockey is a very different and technical game compared to its outdoor equivalent and having lost momentum over the last few years due to Covid, it was expected that the squads would need more competitive experience before aiming for National Finals.
However, both squads performed beyond expectations and finished in the top eight in the country.
The boys’ U16 squad performed creditably at their National Finals, held at Whitgift School. Finishing in eighth place overall, Dr Ashcroft was pleased with their performance.
He said: “The U16 boys squad is a young team, made up of students in Thirds and Fourths. This squad will play together again next season and I have no doubt that they will use this year’s valuable experience to do even better.”
In the same week, the U18 girls competed in their National Final, held at Repton School. Competing against Sevenoaks, Surbiton, William Borlase School and Wakefield, the girls competed well, also finishing in eighth place and showing remarkable promise for the future.
Hockey Coach Chris Ashcroft said “Although results weren’t totally on our side, this was an invaluable experience for both squads. They are both young teams with nearly all of the players having one or two years left in their respective age groups.
“It is commendable after being together for just a relatively short time that they both reached the National Finals and they should be hugely proud of themselves for doing so.”
