Junior School pupils excel in computing challenge

Junior School pupils who recently took part in the Bebras Computing Challenge are celebrating their success!

Designed to introduce pupils to computational thinking and promote problem solving skills, the Bebras Challenge is an annual challenge taken on by schools across the world, regularly attracting more than 3 million entries from 80 different countries.

Deputy Head Academic, Katy Morris-Yousaf, is very proud of everyone who took part.

She said: “This was the first time that many of our younger pupils have ever done anything like this so I was delighted that more than half of our J2 and J3 children achieved a distinction or merit. That means that they came within the top 50% of entries worldwide.

“We also gave out a number of Gold Award certificates for children who came in the top 10% of all entries. Incredibly, one of our J2 children and two of our J3 children achieved 100% in the challenge, which is very rare indeed.”

J4 pupils performed just as well with two pupils achieving full marks and sharing the “Best in School” title, particularly impressive as the J4 classes competed in the same category as Removes pupils.

Mrs Morris-Yousaf congratulated them all: “The Bebras Challenge is a great way to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving. Taking part this year has given everyone an opportunity to showcase their potential and develop their confidence in Computing.

The five pupils who achieved full marks are:
