On Saturday, 22 March, a number of King’s pupils took part in the annual Chester Speech and Drama Festival.
Attracting entries from across the region, the festival is an opportunity for infant and junior-aged children to compete in categories that test a number of skills, including verse speaking, improvisation, and prose reading.
Performing both individually and in groups, pupils from King’s Juniors wowed the judges in many of the categories they entered and came away with an large haul of certificates, trophies and cups. Particularly impressively, J4 pupils won every category they entered.
J4 teacher Mr Melville had helped some of the children to prepare for the competition and was very proud of all who competed.
He said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our children having fun with their performances and enjoying the experience.
“I am, of course, very proud that they won so many trophies but it is their kindness and teamwork that left a lasting impression on me; the children were all so supportive of each other.”
Ravanne Hamer, our LAMDA teacher who takes some of the children for weekly lessons, was also present at the competition.
She echoed Mr Melville’s comments: “The children were a real credit to themselves and to the school. Each and every one of them performed with confidence and enthusiasm.”
Congratulations to all who took part, some of whom are pictured here with their trophies, medals and certificates.
