Kimmy celebrates essay success

Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupil Kimmy Chen (L6GRO), whose essay was recently Highly Commended in the OxBright Essay Competition 2024.

The competition was on the theme of collaboration and Kimmy entered the Medical category, choosing to answer the question: How does collaboration in Medicine support social impact and innovation?

Pictured here with her Certificate of Achievement, she was delighted to rank in the top 20% of a competitive field of over 1000 entries and has also won a free place at an OxBright academic conference.

She said: “This was my first essay competition so I was really pleased to do so well.

“I am hoping to study Medicine or Biological Sciences at university and essay competitions are a really good way to explore these subjects in more detail and hone my research skills.”

Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Lee Parkes, congratulated Kimmy on her success in the competition.

He said: “Entering an essay competition is a great way for pupils to prepare for university applications, think deeply about a topic beyond the school curriculum, and widen their academic horizons.

“We encourage pupils to get involved in competitions like this but it is up to them to put the work in and balance it alongside their A Level studies.

“We are very proud of Kimmy’s achievement which will help her stand out from others as she embarks upon the competitive application process for Medical School.”

This competition was organised by OxBright, by the Oxford Scholastica Academy, which offers courses, internships, conferences and resources for young people that are designed to succeed, find their purpose and make a difference in the world.

They also congratulated Kimmy and the other pupils who entered essays this year.

They said: “Our thanks go to everyone who submitted an essay. Students from around the world submitted creative, optimistic, thoughtful essays on the topic of collaboration in their chosen field. Their brilliant essays have given us at OxBright another reason, if we needed it, to feel optimistic about the potential of this generation to drive the world forward.”
