King’s pupils race for Cheshire

It has been a successful Cross Country season for a number of King’s pupils, culminating for some in racing for the county.

On 19 March, Lucie Thornton (SHLES) and Ben Pold (SHLES) represented Cheshire at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Kent.

On an uncharacteristically warm day, both runners stepped up to compete in a strong field of county-level runners.

Ben stayed in the first half of the 300+ runners in his category, gaining points for the country and helping Cheshire towards a respectable 10th place in the team competition.

Lucie ran well in her field, narrowly missing out on a points position but finishing strong and enjoying the experience of racing at a higher level.

On the same weekend, Thomas Rimmer (RMRE) also represented Cheshire in the National Championships at Loughborough. Racing in the U13s category, which is a year group older than his actual age, he finished 130th out of 300 runners. A particularly impressive result considering that he had also played football for the school earlier that day!

All three athletes are now looking forward to the next Cross Country season.
