King’s Rowers Shine at Head of the Charles Regatta

The prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta is one of the rowing calendar’s standout events and in the first week of the October half-term holiday, 11 senior athletes from The King’s School Rowing Club, made the memorable trip to Boston to take part.

Racing on the iconic Charles River course, stretching from Boston Bay to Cambridge, they competed alongside some of the world’s top crews.

In the Mixed Doubles category, Pabishan Ketheswaran (U6GLAS) and Holly Sutcliffe (U6BRD) placed 31st, whilst the Girls’ Coxed Four secured a 53rd place out of 90 entries.

The Boys’ Coxed Four led the school’s results, placing 28th in their category.

Director of Rowing David Blackham praised the team’s performance: “This was a superb year to be racing on the River Charles, and I am naturally delighted that both the boys’ and girls’ crews achieved the school’s best-ever results in their events in this competition.”

Beyond the regatta, the team immersed themselves in Boston’s culture, with highlights including a walking tour of the city, a trip to Salem, an ice hockey and football game, and a parkrun around Jamaica Pond.

The trip culminated in the now traditional team step challenge at Harvard Stadium, which the students embraced.

Mr Blackham concluded: “This has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience packed with memories for these dedicated athletes and it was a pleasure to share it with them.”
