Bowled over by festival of girls’ cricket

On Monday, 15 May, we were delighted to play host to U12 girls cricket teams from five North-West schools at our very first festival of girls cricket.

This summer, girls at King’s are playing cricket as their main summer sport for the first time this year and it was a pleasure to welcome other schools who have made the same commitment to develop girls’ cricket.

Playing a pairs softball cricket format, each team played five games, giving each school the chance to play against each other.

Director of Cricket at King’s, Mark Baker, organised the festival with the aim of giving as many girls as possible the opportunity to play in a fun and inclusive tournament.

He said: “I was delighted at the positive response to the festival from other schools; to have 59 girls playing and enjoying cricket together has been just wonderful.

“These girls are at the beginning of their cricketing journey in school and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

Thanks to teams from the following schools for joining us:

  • Birkenhead School
  • Cheadle Hulme School
  • Merchant Taylors’ School
  • Newcastle-Under-Lyme School
  • The Grange School
