We were thrilled to hear that Roger Evans (OKS 1974) was recently awarded 2nd place and a special merit in the 2021 World Sports Photography Awards. His images (taken pre-covid) enhance the artistic element of gymnastics and greatly impressed the judging panel.
We asked Roger about his work and achievements throughout the year and this is what he had to say…
“Alongside a successful career in manufacturing IT, I have for the last 40 years pursued my passions for competitive sport and photography. When I could no longer compete the two merged and I literally focused on trying to capture great sporting images.
From Goodison Park to the Gold Coast I have travelled to shoot my passion and along the way I’ve seen both triumphs and disasters and captured them both the same.
I’ve shot over 25 different sports over the years including the likes of Frank Bruno, Lord Sebastian Coe, Usain Bolt, Castor Semenya, Lora & Jason Kenny and Katrina Johnson-Thompson to name but a few.
My favourite sport to shoot however is gymnastics and seeing the likes of Max Whitlock and the Downie sisters performing their routines is a real joy, so to gain two prestigious awards for that category was doubly rewarding.”
You can see below Roger’s fantastic award winning photos – congratulations from everyone at King’s!
