Princeton place for Lydia

We are very proud of Lydia Bills (U6GLA) who has secured a place at Princeton University after being selected for their competitive hockey squad.

She is already looking forward to taking up her place at the prestigious New Jersey institution in the summer and explained what attracted her to apply.

“The main attraction for me is the combination of high level sport and excellent academic reputation. I visited Princeton last year and was blown away by the facilities.”

The Princeton curriculum encourages students to explore a number of different disciplines before concentrating on one area. This means that Lydia won’t be studying for a specific degree to begin with, but plans to take electives in Sociology, Moral Philosophy and Environmental Studies.

Lydia continued: “I really like the flexibility of the programme at Princeton and I am also looking forward to getting involved the community service initiatives that the university is so well known for. There is a real focus on giving back to the community and that appeals to me.”

Applying to US universities is a very different process to applying through UCAS. Lydia explained that she spent a lot of time last summer planning her application and talking to coaches at various American colleges.

“I sent a lot of emails to coaches at different colleges, and also set up an online profile with an agency so that coaches could contact me. My hockey experience at school, at Brookland Hockey Club and the time I spent at the U17 England Performance Centre all really helped me.”

Congratulations to Lydia and we look forward to updates from her time at Princeton.
