Prizewinning story inspired by Celtic mythology

We were delighted to hear of the success of one of our Fourth Year pupils in an international writing competition recently.

At the end of February, Prisha Roy Mahapatra (4WAL) was awarded third place in the Ink of Ages Fiction Prize organised by World History Encyclopedia.

The short story competition for writers of historical or mythology-inspired fiction opened to teenagers for the first time this year, attracting hundreds of entries.

An avid reader and history enthusiast, Prisha enjoys reading retellings of folk tales and myths, making the competition a perfect fit for the young writer.

Her story, Maidens, Men and Raging Seas, inspired by selkies and seal brides from Celtic and Norse folklore, was awarded third place in the Youth Category and was praised by the judges for its strong protagonist and imaginative reinterpretation.
