In the context of Safer Internet Day, which is marked on 8 February, pupils are being encouraged to get involved in the latest inter-House competition which builds on our whole-school focus on kindness.
Mrs McNabb (Head of Bradbury) and Mrs Aldridge (Head of Walsh) have worked with our Mental Fitness Ambassadors to devise a grid of 18 Random Acts of Online Kindness from which pupils are tasked with completing ten over the next two weeks.
Mrs McNabb said: “The theme of Random Acts of Online Kindness links to recent assemblies led by Mr Boyd about empathy, and ties in really well to our focus as a school on ‘One Kind Word’.
“It is also very relevant to Safer Internet Day (SID), which is being marked on 8 February.”
The Random Acts of Online Kindness competition is being launched in assemblies that have been devised by three of our Mental Fitness Ambassadors, Victoria Froehling (L6GLA), Calum McCaig (U6GRO) and Freddie Spillane (L6WER) and over the next two weeks, form time activities will focus on internet safety and being kind online.
Pupils will receive a copy of the Random Acts of Online Kindness form from their form tutors and should tick off the acts of kindness they perform on this. When they have completed ten, they can send it to Mrs McNabb who will record each submitted form.
Tasks include leaving a positive online review of a favourite restaurant, starting a GIF dance-off to make someone smile, sending an e-card to a family member who lives far away, and including someone new in a WhatsApp group and making them feel welcome.
Mrs McNabb added: “House competition is fierce at the moment and, with credits available for every form submitted, this is a great opportunity for pupils to benefit their House whilst also doing good.”
