On Sunday, 29 January, thirteen crews from the King’s School Rowing Club (KSRC) took part in the inaugural Junior Head (North) held along the River Weaver in Runcorn.
In what was described as perfect conditions, a total of eleven VIIIs and two fours from KRSC took part in some competitive racing, with eight of the crews picking up impressive wins.
The competition was set up by British Rowing to support junior rowing by providing a competition in the north that is similar to the London & Dorney-based Junior head races, which will be held later this term in March.
Basing the event in Runcorn and holding it on a weekend date meant that racing at this level is accessible to all juniors in the region.
Headmaster, George Hartley, joined the King’s School rowers at the new event.
He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. It was wonderful to see so many King’s pupils competing in what is a great addition to the northern rowing calendar. Many thanks to the KSRC team who did a sterling job on the day and North West Rowing for organising such a great event.”
