At the beginning of this academic year, King’s invested in The Wellbeing Hub, an expert-led resource developed by child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing experts, Teen Tips.
Claire Sumner, Deputy Head Pastoral, explains why this investment is so important, and how Senior School pupils and parents can make use of the Wellbeing Hub.
She said: “Creating an environment that nurtures pupil mental health and wellbeing is a priority at King’s, and the Wellbeing Hub helps us to work in partnership with parents to ensure that pupils are supported when they need it.”
The Wellbeing Hub has been introduced to pupils, parents and staff over the last half term with the key message that it provides a trusted source of support and expert advice.
Mrs Sumner continued: “There is an overwhelming amount of information available to parents and young people on the internet and, particularly in times of need, it can be difficult to know which websites can be trusted.
“All of the resources on the Wellbeing Hub have been developed by experts so you know it’s advice that you and your child can trust.
“Parents can also be reassured that when their child logs on to the Wellbeing Hub, they only have access to age-appropriate resources and tools.”
As well as supporting pupils when they need it, the Wellbeing Hub also gives them the tools they need to manage their own mental health and wellbeing; through a series of assemblies and tutor period activities, all pupils are being encouraged to make the Wellbeing Hub their first port of call if they have a question or problem that they might otherwise turn to Google for.
Senior School parents were invited to register for the Wellbeing Hub at the beginning of the term and Mrs Sumner is pleased that so many families are taking advantage of free access to the wealth of expert advice and information.
She concluded: “I would encourage all parents to register. As well as podcasts, articles and videos on a wide range of topics, there is a really useful Q&A section that gives quick and informative answers on topics as diverse as body image and friendships to LGBTQI+ and online safety.
“Regular parent webinars are also a great opportunity to hear from experts first-hand on a series of important topics. For example, on 9 November, Nutritional Therapist Isa Robinson will be talking about body image disturbances and eating concerns in young people.”
