It’s been a big week for Skye Parker (RmDR). Not only has she started Senior School here at King’s but she also learned that she had been chosen for the FIA Girls on Track Rising Star programme.
Skye has been karting for many years, regularly competing on a national stage and she is already the top girl in her category in the country.
This is an exciting opportunity for Skye whose eyes were opened to the possibilities within the sport when she was invited to be on the grid at the Silverstone Grand Prix in 2018. As an F1 Future Star, not only did she rub shoulders with the likes of Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso, Skye was also interviewed by Blue Peter.
The Girls on Track Rising Star programme is now into its second season and has been designed to provide a long-term development pathway for junior drivers in karting. Only 28 girls have been chosen for the programme, and they come from all five continents. Skye is one of only three girls chosen from the UK, and is the only British girl in the junior category.
The next phase of the programme is a three-day shoot-out at the end of October which will take place at the Circuit Paul Ricard near Marseille. This is the first stage in a gruelling training and selection process, with the drivers all having their eye on the final prize: a place in an International Karting season with the financial support of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
Alongside the Girls on Track programme, Skye is continuing with her other karting commitments and will race this weekend at the UK IAME O’Plate event held at PFTI in Lincolnshire in the Water Swift Class, which is an international qualifying race for the IAME World Finals later in the year. Good luck Skye!
We look forward to hearing about Skye’s future successes on the track. You can also follow her progress on her official Facebook page.
