Swimming: Juniors make a splash at national finals

On Saturday, 15 June, eight Junior School pupils made the journey to Ponds Forge in Sheffield to complete in the ESSA National Swimming Finals.

Our J4 girls relay team (Poppy McKenna, Rosie Cropper, Tegan Graham and Francesca Smith) competed in the freestyle relay. They swam brilliantly, making it to the B final on the day, beating their qualification time and setting a team PB of 1:04:02.

The J4 boys relay team also set PBs for themselves; Noah Jones Walker, William Sedwell, Ben Marshall and Jake Mitchell (a J3 pupil who stepped in at the last minute) competed in both the medley relay and freestyle relay.

They qualified for the B final in the freestyle, coming third with a time of 1:04:67.

In the medley relay, they reached the A final where they came sixth with a time of 1:11:83.

The swimmers were accompanied by J3 teacher Miss Davies and HLTA Miss Chapman.

They said: “Ponds Forge is such a fantastic venue; there is always a great atmosphere and it inspires the children to give their absolute best.

“We saw some brilliant results from the King’s Juniors swimmers today and they can all be very proud of themselves.”
