The rowing club year began with an additional event as the Pudding Races were held due to the postponement at the end of last term.
In typical fashion, it was a real spectacle on the river as over 140 pupils raced in fancy dress over the shortened distance of 300 metres. Team Nutcracker, who managed to race in time despite being dressed as bumble bees were elected the fancy dress winners of the morning.
The Pudding Races are a special day at the club, it is perhaps the only time over the year when the whole King’s rowing community come together and it was once again fantastic to see some new and old faces at the club. The KSRCPA once again supported the club in many ways and the food and drink stall was busy all morning.
It was wonderful to see John Blackwell, who is currently recovering from his recent shoulder operation, John was on hand to award Mr Duncan Little the Scantlebury duck for the first time for his reversing manoeuvres in the rowing truck.
Many thanks to the Lord Mayor who once again distributed the prizes to the winning crews and finally to the Headmaster who awarded Jack Roberts (L6) his half colours and Amelia Standing (U6) Isabel Beardwood (U6) Natasha Groome (U6) and Millie Medland (U6) their full rowing club colours.
2018 will be a unique year as it will be the first in history to host two sets of pudding races, hopefully such a wonderful start to the year will set up a strong year to follow for the club. The next event on the River Dee will be the North of England Head held on Saturday 17th March, this will be followed by the KSRCPA ball in the evening at the racecourse, tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
