Top Marks for Sixth Form Centre

The opening of our new Sixth Form Centre has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of the last 18 months, providing a bespoke, modern space for our A Level pupils to work and socialise, further underlining our commitment to the revitalisation of our school site and placing our pupils – and our responsibility to the environment – at the centre of that.

We were therefore very proud to learn that the project has been named as the winner in the 2024 Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards as the best public or community building in the North West.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards were set up to celebrate and reward building projects, as well as the people behind them. The awards recognise excellent buildings, and outstanding companies, partnerships and individuals. Importantly, all entries for the award have to be endorsed by a local authority building surveyor.

Bursar at the King’s School, Hayley Jordan and Head of Estates, Jonathan Roberts, worked closely with the teams at Cheshire Renovations and Scott Architecture on the Sixth Form Centre project over two-year period, and were delighted when they heard the news of the award.

Jonathan Roberts said: “The Sixth Form Centre was an ambitious project and it was an absolute pleasure to work with Cheshire Renovations and Scott Architecture who both enabled us to realise our vision of a 21st Century learning environment with sustainability at its heart.”

Hayley Jordan continued: “I am over the moon that the project has been recognised by the LABC Awards; it’s a real testimony to the professionalism of the team we worked with and the successful way in which collaborated to create a very special space for our students.”

Headmaster George Hartley echoed these words: “Key to the project’s success was the fantastic collaboration on both the design and the construction of the Sixth Form Centre, including the input of our students as they contributed their ideas. I am over the moon that this has been recognised by the industry experts.”

The Sixth Form Centre, which was was officially opened in November 2023 by His Grace The Duke of Westminster DL, includes five large state-of-the-art classrooms, a large and modern common room, study pods for individual and group learning, a lecture theatre and a Sixth Form dining area.
