We have been delighted to welcome Tom Crompton from the Grosvenor Estate’s forestry team this week to begin the process of planting 39 trees around the boundary of the school.
The native British trees have been provided by The Grosvenor Estate, who received funding from the government’s Urban Tree Challenge Fund (UTCF). The UTCF was created to support the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan and it has already funded more than 150,000 trees across England.
The planting is expected to take almost two weeks. Tom and his colleague Richy are assisted by our Grounds Apprentice, Ewan Lloyd, who is benefitting from their knowledge and skills as he ensures that the trees are planted to ensure that they thrive.
Bursar, Hayley Jordan, explained how Ewan will be building on this experience when we take on our own tree planting initiative at King’s later in the Lent term.
She said: “As a school, we have committed to plant a further 70 trees around the site to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
“Ewan will work with the Grounds team on the initiative. We hope that pupils from across the school will also be able to join in with the planting, and that they will enjoy watching the trees grow.”
