After their win on Tuesday in the England Hockey In2Hockey event which qualified them for the North of England Finals, King’s travelled to Calday Grange in the Independent Schools Cup Quarter Final on Thursday.
Playing the holders from last year, King’s dominated play but were matched for spirit by Calday who were the only team to hold them to a draw on Tuesday. Osborne gave them a first half lead but Calday levelled before half time from a short corner. Osborne restored the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half but King’s were caught out with four minutes left when a fast break equalised. 2-2 at full time, Calday led 2-1 in the penalty contest with only one more each to take. Bennett scored under pressure to make it 2-2, then Saul made a vital save to keep King’s in the tournament. Saul then made an even better save to keep out the first sudden death stroke and Wallis calmly scored to give King’s a memorable victory.
They now qualify for the ISHC Finals Day at Birmingham University on Tuesday 19th March.
