WATCH: Willow Lodge welcomes the beginning of Summer with May Pole Workshop

On Friday, 28 April, pupils in Willow Lodge welcomed in the start of summer in a quintessentially British way, with a May Pole dance.

Under the guidance of a professional dancer, the children learnt the art of May Pole dancing by working together through different forms of movement and dance.

Once they had found their dancing feet, they progressed on to the more advanced skills such as complex weaves and reversing their dances to unwind the ribbons.

Deputy Head of Willow Lodge, Mrs Jan Callaghan, said: “The children had great fun around the May Pole today.

“As well as celebrating a key British tradition, the children also sharpened their skills of maths, problem solving and team work. They all worked incredibly hard to keep their rhythm, count their steps and create patterns.”
