Young journalist Gemma is making headlines

Budding journalist Gemma Christie (5GRO) has recently joined the Youth Journalism International (YJI) community and has already had three articles published online.

YJI exists to connect student writers, artists and photographers with each other, to teach journalism and to foster cross-cultural understanding.

Since joining, Gemma has enjoyed meeting teenagers from around the world, learning about their culture and about what is happening in different countries, as well as developing an understanding of the basic rules of journalism and the importance of the news.

Gemma wrote her first article about the film Everything, Everywhere all at Once. As well as reviewing the film and giving her opinion, Gemma praised the diversity of the cast and wrote about the importance of the film’s success to the Asian community. Click here to read the article.

Despite being relatively new to Youth Journalism International, Gemma is already looking forward to her first international conference, which will take place in Prague over the summer.

She said: “I have only met the other young journalists on Zoom until now so I am excited to meet them in when we are in Prague together. I think I’m going to learn a lot during the trip about journalism, other cultures and Czechia.”

Youth Journalism International is free to join. Find out more on their website.
